Shove Me Tender

I'm thinking that trying to sleep in is not working for me at all. It just ends up annoying me and the dog. We're going to have to compromise somewhere along the way.

Started to get ready for the day around 11am and eventually made a run to fill up my gas tank and run errands. Stopped at the store to get some portable folding sports chairs so Tawny and I could sit on the rink. Somehow a crafting tractor beam got me at the last minute and I ended up with foam hearts, foam letters and shapes with adhesive, metallic chenille stems and adhesive pin backs. I created these badges for us to wear in support of Hot Pocket. If I believe in you, I will do most anything to cheer you on and help support you. These little things get everyone focused, too.

My dining room table hasn't seen a craft project in months!

Picked up Tawny at her sister's home. They were watching the Green Bay Packers win over the Philadelphia Eagles. (I avoid watching football myself since I tend to get too involved and lose my voice.) We stopped to have an early dinner at a new burger joint in the neighborhood and were impressed. I'm not big on burgers, but this place is on the Approved List.

Here's Hot Pocket stopping by to see us in the middle of warm-ups. Fishnets, pads and roller skates - what could be sexier?

Holding up two extra badges for her to pass out to her other supporters.

All smiles with Ant and his (saintly wife for being with him) Becca. My - what cute badges!

Funny man Joey from work and his adorable wife Leslie. She's been to these bouts before but I don't think she ever had to wear a stylish badge.

Michelle is rockin' the Viking Hat (as our Viking Queen) and The Badge.

Becca was taking her turn with the Viking Hat.

Captured Hot Pocket and some of the girls warming up around the rink with me yelling "Hot Pocket" at the end as she passes by us.

My gosh. These girls skated, shoved and fell throughout the game. It was a great match to watch -- no powder puffs in this roller derby game. These girls would eat you alive! They have names like Sasha Haughtbitch, Spank Sinatra, Anne Tagonize, Wild Cherri, Mama Trauma, Joan of Ache and our own Hot Pocket. It was indeed very exciting and incredibly entertaining. Our team won 107 points to their 98.

You had to be there for this guy's whole performance during the two breaks. Ladies and gentlemen, a token video of Elvis Wesley.

I'd definitely go again. The girls don't have another home game for a couple of months; they are all away games. (Yawning) I'd better roll into bed myself. Might have to use skates to get around all the work piled at my desk.

Blaspheming Elvis

Okay, my new sleeping ritual worked until a couple of hours into it. Methinks it is the spicy food eaten at 9-ish... Continuing again tonight.

Last night, I saw a television advertisement that started off great. The setting was in a barn and a bunch of guys in their 40s and 50s with instruments jamming to an Elvis tune. The guys were having a great time and I was enjoying it, too....UNTIL the chorus words were freakin' Viva Viagra! What the hell??!!! What a way to ruin a great song.

The 30th anniversary date of Elvis Presley's death is upon us. He is still The King!

This and That

Started my day talking to a hungover Yummy at dark-thirty. Yummy spent Saturday with his best mate Anton for a wet trudge on another dragon walk in the rain. They were trying a different path on one leg of their last trek. While the cat's away, the mice are at play. Anton's wife and their kiddies were out of town. The boys spent the evening doing a pub crawl chasing a rockabilly band.

Rockabilly is not a word I ever expected Yummy to say since he is such a heathen for not liking Elvis Presley. Dude, he is The King! I proudly display an Elvis magnet on my fridge. You're not even allowed to be any kind of Filipino without liking Elvis...

Angie called me back from yesterday. She was at the Hollywood Bowl last night watching an audience participation viewing of The Sound of Music. I've been to two of these here in the downtown Tampa Theatre. The Hollywood Bowl has a summer offering of a variety of events during the summer weekends. Sigh. I wish Tampa had more culture besides redneck. Yes, I know, just because Tampanians know more about Oprah than opera doesn't mean anything.

Shopped around town for a couple of hours. People watching yields a fair amount of knowledge on the public's degeneration. A woman was screeching at her boyfriend in the parking lot and another woman was yelling at her little boy nearby for something stupid. Did I mention I was at Wal-mart? Believe me, it doesn't matter if you're at the nicest one in town.

Talked to Yummy again who got some sea air during his neighborhood walk tonight. Living more northerly in the world (UK) makes for some interesting sunsets. He said that there was still light at 9:20pm. I remember in early May when I was visiting him how light it was at 5am.

Left Dianne a voicemail on her cell for good luck wishes on starting her new job tomorrow and reminding her how cool she is and how everyone will just love her. Can't wait to hear about her first day. She won't be totally among strangers. Two of our former co-workers are employed there, too and that is the reason why you don't tick anyone off professionally. You just never know.

Watched some TV before making it an early night. Matt Lauer from NBC's Today Show was prefacing Princess Diana's remembrance concert at Wembley Stadium, given by her sons tonight, with a reprise of his interview with them. Her favorite band, Duran Duran, was playing and at one time they were also my favorite.

I think Diana would have been proud of her sons. They seemed like regular guys who are very much aware how privileged they are in their upbringing and how normal they are not. It was comforting to me for some reason.
